Who Would have Thunk.....

So this morning i got an email from my most favorite aunt that there is a rose bush named after my blog title. (ok really i think it had its name first, but i didn't know it existed, therefore my blog was named first and it was named after.) I had to post it, because anything called Child's Play must be good and needs to be shared!!
Here is a picture of it. It is acually a really pretty rose and i think i might have to purchase it and put it in my newly created flower bed...
And while we are on the topic of Childs Play i will post a picture of our blog titles name sake......

Update

So its been a while since i posted an update, and thought that i should probably do it. We have been super busy lately. Between getting things ready for the baby, having two amazing baby showers, Brandon trying to figure out our poor poor sprinkler and irrigation problem at this new house, and working it seems like time is flying!!
Little bebe is still growin like a weed...I love feeling him moving all around and he does it a lot. He is so spoiled and is not even born yet!! He is loved by many people and got so many nice things. I will post pictures soon of some of the things he got. As for him and me as one...yesterday i had my blood pressure taken and it was high, so today we got to take a trip up North to the docs office and have blood taken and a non-stess test on the baby....everything looked good, which we are ever so gratful for, but they are keeping a close eye on us now! We just have to take it easier...easier said than done... but nevertheless that is whats got to be done.
Thats all for now....I am going to try and gather up more pictures from my 2 showers, but for now here is the only two i have with some high school friends that i never get to see now that i have moved away. So fun to see them and catch up for a minute.Me and my amazing momma!!

My Thoughts Today

So on my way home from work today i heard this song and balled my eyes out. The crying could be in part due to my unstable emotional state from being pregnant, but most of it was because this song is all too true for toooo many kids today.
Working with just pre-schooler children i know that even some of them take on so many more responsibilities than they should have to because their parents wont take care of them, or expect them to take care of themselves completely. Every child deserves a childhood. They deserve to be taken care of, loved, and allowed to play and have a care free life...that is childhood...that is what they need to develop.
Today i think we focus way to much on raising independent children. I do think that children need to be "independent" for a child, this is not the same kind of independent you may be thinking, really for a child independent should mean that they need to learn to tie their own shoes, put their coat on, pour their own milk, pick up their own toys, make their own bed....these are all self-help skills...skills children need in life. They do not need to figure out what to have for breakfast on their own, fix breakfast for siblings, clean the house (they can help mom, but shouldn't be left to do it on their own).
The scriptures teach us that children are submissive, humble, teachable...and as adults we need to become like them...not take advantage of them and their natural kind nature.
Sorry to be so bold, but this is a touchy subject with me lately. Please let your little ones be little. Let them get dirty, let them make a mess, let them play and learn. Help them learn responsibility by your side. Don't expect them to do something you are not willing to do with them side by side.
Anyway, Here is the song. The only place i could find it was YouTube, but it works. Thanks for listening (or reading) to me on my soap box.

Emotional Roller Coaster

The title of this post is what i have felt like the last week of this pregnancy! Why you ask? Well at my last appointment they did the glucose test, and i failed...by quit a bit, so they told me i had to come in for the extended one (our could otherwise be called the torture test :) ) Living so far from the hospital (I am still going to Murray to my old doctor, 2 hours from here), i had to wait till Spring break so i didn't have to take more time off work to travel up for a 3.5 hour test. So to say the least the past week i have read up on what gestational diabetes is all about, freaking myself out, thinking for sure that i had it. I shed my fair share of tears on my amazing hubby's shoulder and my fair share of sick stomach aches just thinking about all the things that could be made more difficult if i had gestational diabetes.
Yesterday, with my bestest friend aka my momma, i went up to the hospital starving (OK not really i just really wanted a drink) because you have to fast from midnight, and took the test from 11-2. They drew my blood 4 times (but did an amazing job--not a mark on my arm!!) and i left still worried that the call today would bring nothing but bad news and justification for all my worries over the last week......BUT
I DON'T HAVE IT!! Holy Smokes what a relief! I just broke down into tears when i hung up the phone in relief that i don't have it, and relief from all my worries! So there it is, my story. I am ready to have a little one in my arms and take that new roller coaster of life and get off this dang emotional one that i am on. I have never in my life split so many tears than i have since i found out i was pregnant! But all for an amazing cause. Brandon and I are getting so excited to meet our little guy!!

Squash's little Squash

So few of you would know, but one of my many nicknames given to me by loving brothers is Squash. Well this week my little swimmer is as big as a squash, so i find it only appropriate to post a Squash's Squash post! :)
Today was another appointment and everything looks good. He is measuring a just little big...good news for him, makes mom a little nervous for his birthday! :) ha ha. But we are both doin good. I am retaining water still...my ankles/shins look disgusting if you ask me, but we are still doing good, so i really cannot complain!! I have a healthy babe and i cannot complain too much about being pregnant...that's all you can ask for!

Your baby is as big as a butternut squash, weightwise -- about 2 1/2 pounds. (Length: a tad over 15 inches, head to heel.)

Recipe for Angel Food Cake

So i had a couple people ask for the recipe for the angel food cake. Here it is.

Rainbow Angel Food Cake

1 package white angel food cake mix
1 teaspoon grated lemon or orange peel
1 1/4 cups cold water
6 to 8 drops red food color
6 to 8 drops yellow food color
6 to 8 drops green food color
Citrus Glaze, recipe follows
Candy confetti sprinkles

Move oven rack to lowest position (remove other racks). Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Beat cake mix, lemon peel and cold water in extra-large glass or metal bowl on low speed 30 seconds; beat on medium speed 1 minutes. Divide batter evenly among 3 bowls. Gently stir 1 food color into each of the batters. Pour red batter into ungreased angel food pan (tube pan), 10x4 inches. Spoon yellow batter on red batter. Spoon green batter on top.

Bake 37 to 47 minutes or until top is dark golden brown and cracks feel very dry and not sticky.

Immediately turn pan upside down onto glass bottle until cake is completely cool. Run knife around edges; remove from pan. Drizzle with Citrus Glaze. Sprinkle with confetti. Store tightly covered. Makes 12 servings

Citrus Glaze
2/3 cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons butter, melted
1 to 2 tablespoons lemon or orange juice

Mix powdered sugar and butter. Stir in 1 tablespoon of the lemon juice. Stir in additional lemon juice, 1 teaspoon at a time, until glaze is thin enough to drizzle.

A Couch, Crib, Barn and fun Cake

What a totally random title huh!! It made me laugh so i hope it makes you too because this is going to be a totally random post update. :)
COUCH
.....We bought a new couch, and we are loving it!!!!! We saw this couch at RC Willy like 7 months or so ago...it was on sale, but we had no place to put it right then, and we thought that even the sale price was too much, so we passed on it. But every time we have gone into that dang store i have seen this sectional couch, and have loved it. Well 2 weeks ago we went in looking for a crib and mattress for little "Mac" and we came out smelling pretty getting a good deal on a couch instead....sorry Mac!! Our story for this couch goes as such... We walked in fully intending on only getting a crib and mattress for our little Mac or Macaroni but no such luck...they didn't have what we wanted. So on our way out i sat on the much loved sectional couch i have had my eye on and mister salesman came over. It was 1200 dollars....too much!! We got talking to him and told him we really want this couch and we regret not getting it 7 months prior when it was on a great deal. He smiled and walked off and came back not 3 minutes later and said he would sell it to us for the great sale price!! YEA!!! we ho hummed, for a second and decided that KSL was not offering us anything nice and what we wanted, so we grabbed our good deal and this week it was delivered. We are loving it and it matches our room perfectly...now you can come visit cause you have something to sit down and take a load off on!!CRIB
... We found Mac a crib. We had gone to RC Willy hoping they had the crib we wanted so bad in stock cause BabiesRus kept running out of them...but they didn't. So we have been watching closely to see when it would come into stock online and snatch it up....finally last Sunday it happened. So, even though we shouldn't buy things on Sunday, we snatched it...and since it has gone out of stock again, so we are lucky we got it when we did!! Yea little one will have a place to sleep....right next to his..........BARN
We got the barn painted on little "Mac's" wall. Brandon used the projector and made a wonderful out line and first coat of paint. Then i got to do the second coat and wow!! How fun for the little man!! One happy note is that we did not purchase one drop of paint for it....looking at the colors of it you will see how bold the old owners were in painting the house, and now know why we changed or are going to change everything! :)CAKE
Last and least of all....i made a rainbow angel food cake last Sunday and i have to show how fun it turned out!!

Baby Update

On Friday we had our monthly checkup appointment. This one is where they told us about the results of our big ultra sound. Its so nice to hear that everything is perfect. I had no doubts that he was healthy, but just to hear out of the doctors mouth that our little babe is healthy and growing makes this momma a happy little lark!
A weekly update from babycenter.com says that our little "Mac"(his new nickname) is Head to heels, about 13 1/2 inches. His weight — a pound and a half — isn't much more than an average rutabaga.
We are getting more and more excited to meet our little boy. Time seems to drag on for me, but at the same time we are already into March....time is such a funny thing. We are getting closer and closer with his room....baby steps, but eventually i hope to have it all put back together (right now its all torn apart so we could paint the walls). Pictures will be coming soon hopefully! :)
