2 Nephi 2: 11 For it must needs be, that there is an opposition in all things. If not so, my first-born in the wilderness, righteousness could not be brought to pass, neither wickedness, neither holiness nor misery, neither good nor bad. Wherefore, all things must needs be a compound in one; wherefore, if it should be one body it must needs remain as dead, having no life neither death, nor corruption nor incorruption, happiness nor misery, neither sense nor insensibility.
So this past week we have been met with a little opposition, and while honestly it has been one of the roughest weeks with Ky in the 9 months that i have been his mama, i have to see the brighter side. I have to see what I have learned...and that is a whole lot of things i am going to blog about because this is my only journal, and it always helps build your testimony when you share it so here is what i learned this past week from my opposition:
#1: I am so extremely grateful for
a: my mom who was my support the entire time....i would die without her
b: My husband who is worthy of his Priesthood and could give my very sick little guy a blessing on a moments notice.
c: Doctors. Laying in bed last night thinking about what good could have possibly come from this in my life, and I couldn't help but to think of how grateful i am that doctors give up so much to learn what they do so they can serve us all.
With Chase in med school I get a glimpse of what it takes to become a Dr and it is not easy. He gives up lots and lots of precious time with his little family, and with all of his and Missy's families. It truly is a sacrifice on their part to learn what they do, to serve us.
I think sometimes we get caught up on how stinkin expensive drs are...i know i do...LOTS...but in the end I am still so extremely grateful for them and for what they do all of us.
d: I am grateful for medicine. I am normally not a pill popper kinda person...I think we are all a little to dependent sometimes on pills for a fix all....with that said...i am grateful that we have medicine so when used correctly it can heal us.
#2 I learned how rewarding/challenging being a mom is all about
I love being a mom with every fiber of my being. Its all I ever wanted to do when i "grew up". I never knew then how hard it would be to actually be a mom. Even babysitting my entire life, and doing daycare, i still had no idea that being a mom could be so trying at times. But, even though it tests your patience, there is so much more that is so wonderful about it. This week just snuggling with Ky, trying to figure out how to make him happy, and succeeding, and having him sleep on my chest all make the other times so worth it.
I am so grateful for the gospel in my life, and am grateful for the perspective it puts things in.
I guess I should explain what we have been experiencing this past week. Tuesday of last week i had his 9 month checkup so i took him in and while i was there told him he was getting a cough, so he checked his ears and throut, but nothing, so he said to just watch him and if he got worse to bring him in...ya by Thursday he was SICK. We had been up all night with him crying and being so fussy. So we returned to the Dr. Friday to find that he had a really bad ear infection on one side and a developing one on the other (curse the dang Petersen genes for that) so we got some antibiotics for him to take and went home. That night Ky woke up screaming and crying again...i tried to nurse him back to sleep, but he would not...then i checked his bum to find that he had blood in his poop. This happened when he was 3 months as well when on antibiotics, so i thought i would just watch it and take him to the Dr Monday. But things just progressively got worse and 2 or 3 times we seriously considered taking him into the ER (this is because we have no such thing as Urgent care here). His cough was bad, and the blood was worse than before. I honestly was worried about RSV...but when we went to the Dr Monday morning... we found (might i add after a tramatizing trip for mom and Ky to radiology for a chest X-ray) that he had Pnmonia. No wonder why he cough was so horrible. The Dr gave him a rocephin shot in his little thigh and sent us home to return again the next day. He had us give a stool sample to him to send to the lab and set up an appointment to Primary Childrens GI specialist for April (sad that was thier soonest appointment) to see why he keeps having this problem. I have to add that he stopped eating and drinking bottles and nursing since Friday afternoon too... and when i would get him to eat he threw it up. STRESS! So yesterday he was feeling lots better, but still not eating or drinking so he got another shot to make sure he was getting medicine and the antibiotic he was getting wasn't being thrown up or going straight through him.
Today he is MUCH MUCH better! He is moving all over and is finally eating and taking a bottle. Ya his neglect of eating finished us off as far as nursing...the little man just weened himself! I must say i am a little sad to stop nursing. I quite enjoyed that time together but he just didnt care to anymore...i by far am more tore up about it than he is!
So there is our week...blah!
Here is my sick boy:
See those purple eyelids and glassy eyes..poor boy! The picture is from my phone so it isnt perfect
